Introduction to Rubber Shock Absorber Bushings

A rubber shock absorber bushing is a composite mechanical component that absorbs vibration energy and buffers impact using the elasticity and viscoelasticity of rubber. It typically has a "sandwich" structure: an outer metal casing, a rubber layer in the middle that provides the core damping function, and an inner metal tube. This design allows the bushing to be securely mounted on equipment while effectively isolating vibrations through the rubber layer. It is widely used in automobiles, railway vehicles, and various industrial machinery.

1. Main Components & Working Principle

Metal Parts (Inner & Outer Tubes)
Made of steel (e.g., 40Cr tempered steel) or aluminum alloy, these parts provide structural strength, support, and mounting interfaces, ensuring the bushing is firmly positioned on mechanical arms or vehicle frames.

Rubber Layer (Core Damping Component)
Made from natural rubber (NR), EPDM, etc. Its working principle uses the elasticity of rubber to cushion mechanical impacts, while the internal friction between rubber molecular chains dissipates vibration energy as heat, thereby achieving damping and noise reduction.

Additional Features & Structures
Some high-performance bushings are optimized with buffer zones or cavities in the rubber layer and may even include limit stops and auxiliary springs to provide better protection under severe impact, preventing direct metal-to-metal contact.

2. Main Applications

Application Field

Specific Use

Primary Function

Automotive Industry

Control arms, engine mounts, suspension strut mounts, torsion bar bushings, shock absorber bushings

Improve ride comfort, reduce chassis noise, enhance handling stability

Industrial Machinery

Engine mounts, electric motor bases

Absorb equipment vibration, protect precision components, lower operating noise

Rail Transportation

Bogie mounts, car body connecting bushings

Reduce impact from track irregularities, improve train running stability

3. Key Performance Parameters

Hardness
Measured in Shore A hardness, indicates the stiffness of the rubber. Hardness directly affects damping performance and load capacity.

Static/Dynamic Stiffness
Represents the bushing's resistance to deformation under load. Stiffness determines its "softness/hardness" and natural frequency, and must be matched to the equipment to be effective.

Durability
Includes heat resistance, ozone resistance, fatigue resistance, etc. Durability determines service life and must be ensured through proper compounding and manufacturing processes.

Bond Strength
The adhesion between rubber and metal. If this is insufficient, the bushing will fail quickly. Bond strength is a critical quality indicator
